The first dimension at the “Strategic/organizational level” focuses on the “shaping” capabilities of the leader. Designing an environment that is conducive to performance, growth, collaboration, and engagement is at the heart of enabling leadership – and social technologies play an increasingly important role in constituting and shaping this environment.
Raising the Social Media literacy of a leader’s 360 degree environment, and the appropriate design of the cultural context in which the use of social media takes place, are fundamental OSML strategies that need to be driven with equal focus. To succeed in this process, it is important to make sure that the very DNA of Social Media - transparency, timeliness, horizontal collaboration, etc. - becomes an integral part of the advisory process.
Digital natives can serve as great “literacy accelerators” here, by sharing their knowledge and expertise, for example through reverse mentoring programs. If orchestrated well, they become important resources for driving change faster.
